Captain’s Blog July 31

31 Jul

After four days in the hot seat of the booth I have a day off today. Well a day off as far as racing is concerned but I will hardly be putting my feet up because shortly I will be heading to a local car boot sale. We will be going as sellers rather than buyers and the car is loaded with various items that we are hoping to offload on some local bargain hunters. I am a car boot virgin and am not quite sure how the whole thing will go. What I do know is that there is a snack bar on site which will hopefully provide some tasty bacon sarnies and a lovely refreshing cup of tea. That will of course be a highlight and if we can make a few quid so much the better. This particular project does mean that I will miss most of the Racing action that is taking place today, but to be honest I have had my fill of high octane Racing after four long days in the booth. It will be good to have a day off as I am back on the horse so to speak on Sunday when I will be presenting from Chester. I am not thinking about that now though as I am currently applying my mind to pricing up a second hand set of golf clubs, some DVD’s and a rather fetching lamp shade. Two quid the lot anyone?

At least the car boot will be over in time for us to get home, enjoy a beer and settle down to watch some quality Rugby league when St Helens take on Warrington. I fear that Warrington will be too strong and the Saints will probably have one eye on the Challenge Cup semi final next week. I normally have a few beers duruing a Saints game, but I will be taking it easy tonight with a long drive to Chester ahead of me tomorrow. Nonetheless I will enjoy the game and it will help me relax after getting involved in some serious haggling with car boot punters earlier in the day.

At the moment if you wanted to have the lot on a horse you would be daft to have the bet if either kieren Fallon or Richard Hughes were not on board. They are both riding with supreme confidence. Hughes must feel like he could turn water into wine at the moment and Fallon must think that the old magic has finally returned. I think it is fair to say that there is no jockey out there riding better than these two and Gerald Mosse could learn a trick or two if he was to watch a video of these guys in action this week. Our french friend is a jockey who has ridden winner after winner and is a much respected man in th eweighing room, but what on earth was he doing on Dalghar this week at Goodwood. He have it a stinker, Hughes or Fallon would have won on the snaff. Jockeys do make a difference folks and anybody who would tell you otherwise is quite simply bonkers.

I am going to leave you for the weekend now, but please do tune in to some excellent action on Racing UK today and I will be at Chester on Sunday for family fun day. See you there.

Libranno was a short priced winner on the blog for us yesterday (advised as the only bet at 6/4)

All the best!
